India is a land of cinemas with about 1600 films releasing every year. Bollywood has a maximum revenue contribution of 43%. The Tamil and Telugu film sector is also very famous and contributes 36% of the revenue.
Thalaivi is an Indian trilingual biographical film directed by A. L. Vijay. Shailesh Singh and Vishnu Induri are the film producers.
The release date of the movie is 26th June 2020. Vijayendra Prasad who wrote Baahubali and Manikarnika is the writer of this film GV Prakash will be the music composer and Nirav Shah, the cameraman.
The story is based on the life of Late Jayalalithaa, the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu. She has emerged as a successful actress in the mid-1960’s.
She is always remembered for her acting and her beautiful dancing skills. Her 19 years of film career has given 140 movies to the audience.
Her frequent co-star MG Ramachandran became CM of Tamil Nadu in 1980 and asked Jayalalitha to join his party AIADMK and thus, started her journey as a politician.
The role of Queen of Tamil Nadu will be played by Queen of Bollywood Kangana Ranaut. It is the second Tamil film for the actress after Dhoom Dhaam released in 2008.
Arvind Swami is said to play the role of legendary politician MG Ramachandran. The actor is famous all over the country and is also fluent with Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu and can do justice to the role of the politician.
The role has great importance in the film as the biopic of Jayalalitha is incomplete without MG Ramachandran because of his efforts in grooming her from an actress to a politician.
The teaser of the movie was released on 23rd November 2019 and is one-minute long. In this, Kangana Ranaut is seen recreating a popular song of Jayalalitha as an actress wearing a beige blouse and red pants with her hair in two pony-tails and then there is a change in ambiance and she is seen waving the crowd like a politician.
The first look of the poster was posted on Twitter with the caption: “The legend we know, but the story that is yet to be told! Presenting Kangana Ranaut, in and as # Thalaivi.”
Kangana Ranaut is difficult to recognize in Jayalalitha’s role. She is wearing a green attire resembling the one worn by AIADMK chief with her handheld high depicting the two-leaf symbol of the party.
The teaser and poster received mixed reviews from the audience on Twitter. Some people criticized her unrecognizable look in the movie whereas some anticipated a National Award for Kangana.
The biopic of Late CM of Tamil Nadu promises to deliver her life journey from stardom to politics.
Even before starting the shoot of the movie, the director is facing a legal battle in the Madras High Court. Jayalalitha’s niece J Deepa has opposed its making due to privacy concerns.
There are two films which are to be released on Jayalalitha’s life. The other is a web series and is directed by Gautham Menon and has Nithya Menen in the lead role.
Deepa has sought help from the court to stop the release of two biopics on her aunt. She has made a demand to submit both the scripts to her and to seek her permission for the making of the film.
But, now the director is claiming to have permission and a No Objection Certificate from Deepa and they are set to start the film.
Director Vijay said in an interview to a daily that the film is not regional but it is for the whole population of India. There were lots of discussions in selection for the actress for the title role.
And finally, Kangana Ranaut was approached for the role. He thought that Kangana is one of the biggest stars and only a top star can do justice to the life of Late Jayalalitha.
So, keep your fingers cross and let’s wait for the release of the movie and see how effective it is to attract the audience and to rule the box-office.
